Twenty-Two Percent

Embracing My 22% I am so proud of my heritage

Growing up, I heard jokes, references to stereotypes, whispers that made it seem like being Jewish was something to be ashamed of.

As an adult woman who has studied Old Testament Scripture, taken classes on seeing the Messiah in in the Old Testament Feasts, traveled to The Holy Land and was re-baptized in the Jordan River by a Messianic Rabbi, I could not be any prouder.  As I pray and watch the news about what is going on in Israel as they battle their God given right to defend their lives, Jesus echoes in my soul and in the resilience the nation carries.

Those echos connect me to generations of people who have faced unimaginable hardship and still rise with hope, creativity, and an unshakable identity. And what about Jesus Christ, God’s only Son. He broke into humanity to bring forth a new community. A transformed community that we are now One in Him. My family. Part Gentile, part Jewish. What a heritage. What an honor!  .

So this Thursday on the anniversary of the 23rd of Sivan (Book of Esther, Chapter 8) fear turned into fire for the Jewish people. I encourage you to start a conversation about your heritage, what God has done in your life and celebrate it —proudly.

To be a member of Christ’s family is to carry a light. Thanks be to God. Shalom..
